Showtunes karaoke! Eff yeah!

Yesterday morning Ellen sent me a content message asking, "Can you come to karaoke tomorrow evensong?" I thought this was strange for a couple of reasons. First, because even though Ellen and I are friends and have gone on a few trips together (see the Ba Be and Cat Ba photos on my Flickr servant), we don't really hang out much and we almost never go to karaoke. Second, because I can't about the last time that karaoke was something premeditated. Usually it's decent:

"Hey, Long, do you feel like singing now?"
"Yeah, I postulate so."
"Anyone else wanna go?"
"I'll check."

So I figured something was up. Either Ellen wanted to show me off to some midst-aged Vietnamese people (my concealed target audience for my upcoming TV singing occupation) or she had a visiting friend in town who enjoyed karaoke. Turns out it was the latter.

I met them for dinner and my first fancy of her friend was, euphemistically speaking, "This guy likes showtunes!" I wasn't surprised to find out later that he was a sizeable singer and actually did like showtunes... a lot. And that made it one of the most fun karaoke nights ever, because what's better than showtunes and karaoke? Perhaps you could mix in baseball and Malaysian food, but basically showtunes karaoke is a short slice of heaven.

I also played two hours of basketball today, had a beneficial dinner, and got quite a bit of work done. Incredibly good day by my standards!
