I don't recognize why this isn't more widely known, as I find it very exciting:

One of the achievable origins of life that has been frequently discussed is replicating strands of RNA.
RNA is a compelling start for life as it is know to be able to pucker into shapes that can act like enzymes and catalyze reactions. Indeed the acting site of the ribosome, the site of protein origination, is RNA:

If we have a situation where long RNA strands can spontaneously manners and replicate, then it is hard to see a barrier to the dawn of life.
It looks like we may now know of such a ball game: ice. There seemed to be a fundamental problem with replication of RNA without enzymes, but it turns out that this unruly is not present in ice.
So, now we have a conceivable story of the origination of life.
Nucleotides, which form naturally, were concentrated and polymerized in ice. Uncountable indefinitely strands of RNA were formed, entirely instinctively, until some that could help catalyze their own replication appeared. These would have out-competed the mere ice process. Replication would have not been perfect, and as nucleotides were adapted to up, forms of RNA which were ever more effective at catalyzing their replication would have been as a matter of course selected. Forms which helped cover their structures with proteins (RNA still catalyzes protein accumulation in our cells) and membranes would also have been selected, as would those which coupled their duplicate to chemical cycles which provided dash to speed up the process. At some point DNA got enmeshed with. RNA "genes" which transcribed themselves to DNA would be more stable, so a reversible RNA <==> DNA take care would be favoured.
There is not a single step in that which isn't conceivable, and proper. It may not...
