NEW Version of OLD Ghost in the Shell movie coming.
I'm torn.
I have caring memories of going to see the original rendition of this film at the Star John R amphitheatre way back in 1995 when it had its limited run. It was the first anime I'd ever seen in the theatres (alas, I was too uninitiated and unaware when the seminal--and vastly overrated--Akira had its epoch-making run) and man, did it look devoted. These days, with fully digital dash, details beyond even those of Ghost 1.0 are not only possible, but are swiftly becoming commonplace. Oshii once called this vapour the hardest one he'd ever made, just a horrible occurrence. He went back to the well to make Innocence, its argumentative sequel, in 2004. Seems the work he did on Innocence compelled him to retool his first membrane, complete with a new mix by Skywalker Sound, who handled Innocence and his new coating The Sky Crawlers (which I very much want to see).
In short: Ghost in the Shell 2.0 with CGI enhancements and an upgraded unimpaired mix.
You be the judge. "After" pictures with the "befores" underneath:
My take: I marginally prefer the before pictures, for the most part. The old man Aramaki in the dwelling is the only real improvement of the three, to these eyes.
What this will bring out for me in the long run, I hope, is that I'll have the option to chronometer both versions, as I'd love to get this new version in Gamy-Definition. Also, my hope is that this gets a marque new dub, like Innocence is getting, with the shy of the Stand-Alone Complex GitS TV show. THAT would be unalloyed. The old 1995 dub is pretty sloppy entire (and Mimi Woods is awful as Kusanagi. SAC's Mary McGlynn gets her a moment ago right).
Here's hoping.
